The Creation of A Generation

Our Story: A Legacy Forged in Fire and Faith

Every three years, the coast comes alive with a spectacle of color, devotion, and roaring flames. The King’s Boat Festival (王船祭) is one of Taiwan’s most spectacular and deeply revered cultural traditions. Rooted in centuries of maritime history and Taoist folk religion, this triennial ritual is held to welcome the Celestial Inspectors (Wang Ye)—divine deities sent to banish pestilence, cleanse the community of evil, and usher in peace and prosperity.

What begins with years of meticulous, master-level craftsmanship building a massive, intricately painted wooden boat culminates in a breathtaking, overnight beachside finale. As dawn breaks, the boat is surrounded by thousands of ghost money offerings and set ablaze, carrying away misfortunes into the spirit world and leaving behind blessings for the land.

“The King’s Boat Festival is more than an event; it is a living testament to community, resilience, and the enduring bond between the people and the divine.”
